We started our summer off by going to Baker NV to see Lehmans Cave over Memorial weekend. We both had been there when we were little kids. I remembered going but Kyle didn't have any memory of going when he was a kid. So I thought it would be fun to go out there and see it. Thank goodness we were able to leave early cuz it took us awhile to find a camping spot. We didn't really want to pay for a spot so we went on a search for a nice "free" area. A doctor that I work with told me a few places and he also told me we should be careful cuz it usually snows there too that weekend. So far we had perfect weather. We found a spot that someone had put alot of time into making. It was perfect! There was a stream right by it that was way full and there were places we could take our Razor out and ride around. The drive out there wasn't too bad either. It is very pretty out there but definitely nothing but the caves out there.
This first picture is us in front of Wheeler Peak. There is a scenic drive by the caves that takes you all the way up to Wheeler Peak campground. At the very top there was still a ton of snow and you couldn't camp up there. The drive is really nice.
The next few pictures are obviously Lehmans Cave. We went on the 90 min tour and it was worth it. This place was way cool! We were in the back of the group so we got alittle bit behind everyone but was able to take some way cool pictures and take our time enjoying the cave. The group was really small too. There were 20 people.
A person in the group was kind enough to take our picture for us. Too bad you can't see the background. This is the part of the cave they sealed off the rest of the tour too for research. I can't remember the name. I wanna say the grand ballroom but I know that is wrong.
The picture above is the last part of the tour. The guide said since the place was around 50 degrees year round they use to have parties down there back in the day. Alot of the stalagmites and such are broken off because of the parties and people wanting to take home souvenirs.
The long walk out of the cave.
Of course we took the dogs with us. They love camping. They also like sitting on me.
This is the scene we saw the morning we woke up to go home. I had been warned by Dr. Crouch but I didn't believe him. We were shocked it snowed on us. The night before we went for a razor ride up one of the canyons and it started raining but we didn't think it would turn into snow. We packed everything up and dropped the trailer off in Baker and headed up to Ely NV. It was a cute town. Alot bigger than I thought it would be. We drove around there for alittle bit. We even went to the town of Ruth where they do alot of mining.
Overall we had a great time and would love to go back. There are a lot of roads we didn't get to go explore and see where they went. On the way home we stopped at Frisco UT an old mining town and looked at all the ruins. It would have been really cool to see what these places looked like when they were booming.
We had to cut our trip short because our new jacuzzi was arriving on monday. It is so NICE!!! We up graded our old one for this one cuz we wanted to have speakers in the tub. It is very nice to go out there and relax and listen to music.
As you can see it has 2 water fountians and the lights are super cool. We LOVE this jacuzzi. I didn't want to cut our trip short but after getting in this I didn't mind it one bit =)
